All-conquering Slattery wraps up Munster title in great style

Matt Slattery was crowned the inaugural winner of the Support Your Local Bike Shop Munster Cyclocross League yesterday after winning the final round in convincing style.

It’s been a season to remember so far for the Strata3-VeloRevolution man who has completely dominated from start to finish.

At yesterday’s contest promoted by Upperchurch Drombane CC in Thurles, Co Tipperary, Slattery won by over two and a half minutes.

Ex-professional road rider John Dempsey of Panduit Carrick Wheelers CC came in for a fine second – his best result of the season.

The event was once again well-supported and on a fast, dry course, Slattery attacked the race from the start.

He got away on his own, extending his margin as he rode towards victory over the six laps that followed.

Richard Barry of St Finbarr’s is another who has enjoyed a good season and he was third on the day as well as wrapping up third overall in the series.

Richard Maes (Killarney CC) was runner-up overall, despite finishing sixth yesterday.

Italian rider Giuseppe Greco dominated the ‘B’ race on a mountain bike.

He beat the field by over three minutes, with well-known road man Michael Hennessy of Fermoy CC in second and Pauric Laois (Laois CC) next in third.
